This week I really want to take it back to basics and explain the benefits and reasons why hypnotherapy works for weight loss. I’ve written a lot about how you can change your mindset on your journey and ideas for exercise and better food choices but I want to explain why this is so necessary. I often read the comments under the news articles I read on the internet and I’m shocked by the number of people who simply assume that overweight people just need to eat less and exercise more, or cut down on fast food. This is really an over simplification and if I may say so, probably quite an uneducated point of view.
As is always the case there is never just one reason for people being overweight, it is often down to a combination of factors and it’s common to use food as an emotional crutch. Sometimes, not only do we need to address the food habits that they have but also the other issues that cause them to comfort eat. these can vary, but I work with a lot of mums and they are often suffering from lack of self-confidence, feeling invisible because they have devoted so much time to their families and general pressure from juggling young families, relationships and careers which can lead to a really bad relationship with food.
As a hypnotherapist I push my clients to explore the reasons why they eat as well as when and what. We try to look at the areas of their life they want to change and develop a positive ‘can do’ attitude towards it. By developing a healthy relationship with themselves they can then and only then develop a healthy relationship with food.
