As a new business owner I have been taking a little advice. A mentor looking at my website recently asked why I didn’t have any before and after photos. Well, I have an after photo because I really would like you to be able to picture me when you read my blog but I don’t have any before pictures because, well, I didn’t let anyone take my photo.
In a world where digital photos are easily erased, as soon as a photo was taken I would look, feel physically disgusted at the way I looked and delete it. I hated looking at myself in the mirror and in photos.
You may be able to identify with that; I know a number of my clients can. It’s so sad when we get to that stage and it becomes a downward spiral. We can’t bear to look at ourselves and when we do see our photo or reflection we think negative and destructive thoughts. I’m sure you know the kind; my bum is so big, I hate my tummy etc.
What you probably don’t realise is that all these negative thoughts, which, incidentally are not all true, have a negative effect on your subconscious, sending the message that your body and you are not worth taking care of. At worst you’ll begin to verbalised or think those messages.
How can you turn that around? Well, you can start practising giving yourself compliments for a start. Make yourself look in the mirror and find something you like and let yourself know. Whilst you’re there smile at yourself. Give yourself a little encouragement, be a friend.
Of course you’ll feel self-conscious at first but it will get easier. The more you believe in yourself the better you will feel and the more often you practise the more it will become second nature.
So, I found a photo from before. I am in fancy dress so please excuse the outfit (80s party for a friends’ 40th ;)) but I can look now, knowing that 1) I was still the same amazing person then as I am now, I just didn’t know it at the time and 2) that all it took was a little bit of help and self belief and I managed to lose enough weight to feel happier and more confident in my own skin.
I know that you are amazing too and you can achieve the same results. Let me know your (positive!) thoughts about this weeks post as well as how I can help you too.
