I’m a bit late to the party with a post on New Years’s resolutions but in the run up to Blue Monday, where many people feel down about the fact that it’s January and they’ve already failed at their resolutions maybe it’s more apt than you think.
This year I decided not to have any resolutions but to have 3 words to shape the year. The main one I’ve been focusing on is ‘gratitude’ but the other two are ‘abundance’ and ‘attraction’. I also have a motto for the year and that is ‘one step at a time’.
Why not a resolution? Resolutions tend to be knee jerk reactions to a particular situation. Think of how many people overindulge at Christmas and decide they need to lose weight in January. It’s a desperate panic in reaction to a situation where they feel out of control.
I am being kind to myself, supporting myself and helping myself to create a better and more fulfilled life.By choosing a motto and 3 specific words I am shaping my year in the way that I want to but without the desperation, the fear or the reaction.
I am not setting myself up to fail, rather supporting my efforts to succeed.
I have intentions too. To see my friends more often and to have Indulgent Wednesdays – when I spend the evening taking care of myself with indulgent and relaxing activities including an early night and lots of sleep.
Do you make resolutions? Have you kept them or have they already fallen by the wayside? What do you think of my approach – would it work for you? Leave me a comment below and let’s get the conversation started.
