At the moment I am spending a lot of time working out of the home. For 10 years now I have spent often all and sometimes half of the week working from home but at the moment I have a contract that means I am out of the home all day and I can’t collect my kids from school.
This, especially for Titch, my youngest, is a big change. And she doesn’t like it. She’s not alone; many of us are resistant to change and it’s why many of us struggle with weight loss.
Because to have permanent and effective weight loss, we have to have change. We have to change a number of things and we must change them permanently, in order to achieve permanent weight loss.
This is the main reason we yo-yo when we diet. We don’t see the change as permanent and we have that ‘going back to normal once I lose the weight’ idea in the back of our minds.
I read a comment on a forum somewhere the other day, the poster had ben doing really well with her diet and said; (I paraphrase) ‘Nearly at my 2 stone weight loss. When I get there I’m going to celebrate with a Pizza Hut pizza’.
There is nothing wrong with the occasional pizza. But the problem with weight loss celebration pizzas is that they tend to either end up with a binge because of the long-term deprivation or you simply revert back to the overeating behaviour you used to exhibit before the diet.
Quite simply the change isn’t permanent and it is too drastic. What many of us fail to realise is that small changes permanently made are what leads to permanent weight loss.
So with that in mind this week I challenge you to look at your eating and make some small changes. Ones that aren’t too drastic or scary but that you will be able to live with forever. No going back.
Tell me what you are going to change below – I always love to hear from you.
